Welcome to North Carolina

This gorgeous southern state hugs the East Coast and spans from the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Smoky Mountains on its western border. The state's motto, "First in Flight," pays homage to Wilbur and Orville Wright who first took flight on December 17, 1903, and you can visit the Wright Brothers Monument near Kitty Hawk in the city of Kill Devil Hills. North Carolina's temperate climate can be enjoyed on a visit to one of their ten national parks, or a peaceful hike on the American Tobacco Trail, a 22-mile trail that runs along an abandoned railroad corridor from Durham to New Hill-Olive Chapel Road. This sweet state also puts its resources to festive use: it's one of the country's top producers of Christmas trees.
