For your convenience in re-creating this recipe, I’ve provided shop-able ad links to some of the products used; disclosure policy available here.

  • Ground Beef— We used 70/30 to make our patty (more on ground beef types below)
  • Seasoning Salt
  • Slider Rolls — We love to use Hawaiian dinner rolls for our sliders because they are so flavorful!
  • Sliced pickles — Dill pickles (Try our homemade dill pickle recipe!)
  • Shredded Lettuce — Iceberg is traditional, though you can totally use what you have on hand
  • White onion — finely chopped
  • American cheese — You’ll need about a dozen slices (each slice can cover about 2 sliders but you’ll be using two layers)
  • Copycat “Special Sauce” (ingredients below)

Instructions

This recipe requires just a few minutes of prep time and 10 minutes cook time, so it comes together in 30 minutes or less!

To Prep: Preheat oven to 350°F and prep a cookie sheet by lining with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

1. Prepare the Beef Patties

Press about 2 lbs of seasoned ground beef into a flat rectangle on your prepared pan, about 1/2″ thick. You want the beef to be about the same size and shape as the sheet of slider rolls. Keep in mind that the beef may reduce slightly while cooking.

Bake the hamburger until an inserted thermometer reads 145°F (about 10 minutes). Keep an eye on it as it bakes because it may cook a little faster or slower depending on how flat you pressed the meat.

While the beef cooks, slice the slider rolls in half through the middle, so that you have two “sheets” of rolls —so that the bottoms of the sliders are one separate sheet and the tops are another. Try to keep the rolls from breaking apart.

Set the bottom sheet of slider buns on a serving platter or cutting board.

Whisk together all of the Big Mac sauce ingredients in a small bowl, until smooth.

2. Build Your Burgers

Spread a generous layer of special sauce on the bottom buns. Add a layer of shredded lettuce and sprinkle of chopped onions.

Next, add a slayer of sliced cheese and pickles. Top this with the cooked burger patties. I recommend doing this while the meat is still warm so it will melt the cheese.

Prep Tips

  • To save time, you can use Thousand Island Dressing for your burger sauce. It’s very close in taste and consistency to the Big Mac special sauce.
  • The classic Big Mac is served on a Sesame Seed bun. To re-create this effect at home, brush the top bun sheet with melted butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  • If you don’t have apple cider vinegar, you can use white vinegar in the special sauce instead.
  • Feel free to add a sprinkle of slat and/or black pepper to your burger-patties if you like.
  • If you don’t have an oven or prefer not to use one, you can cook your patties the old fashioned way in a large skillet. You may need to break them into smaller pieces for this, which is why I think the oven method is a bit easier. But both will work!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can You Build the Sliders First, Then Bake?

With many slider recipes, you build your sandwiches first and then bake everything together in the baking dish. However, since we are using hamburger meat, we want to make sure that the ground beef is cooked all the way.

If you baked the beef on top of the buns, the meet wouldn’t crisp up on the edges and and it might not cook all the way through. It would also make the buns soggy when you bake.

It might seem like a tad extra effort to cook the meat separately and THEN build the sliders, but I promise it’s really not! Plus, the end result is much better this way!

What Fat Percentage is Best for Burgers?

When buying ground beef, you’ll notice that the packages are labeled with ratios or percentages. This is the meat to fat ratio – it’s common to see everything from 70/30 to 98/3.

When making burgers, the more fat in the meat, the juicier they’ll be. Keep in mind that a lot of the fat cooks off, but having it there to start with helps the meat retain moisture.

You’re welcome to use lean beef if that’s what you prefer, but taste-wise, we like to use 70/30 for our ground beef mixture. This makes sure they’re extra juicy and don’t dry out while cooking.
